Buckle up! The leadup to Sunday’s lunar eclipse (aka Full Moon on steroids) promises a significant and eventful week ahead.

Powermonger Pluto has strayed out of its usual relationship to the ecliptic, or apparent path of the Sun, which astrologers call going “out of bounds.” And over the millennia we’ve noticed that during these times a planet goes rogue, unleashing energies in unexpected and sometimes erratic ways. Pluto is all about the right (and wrongful) use of power, transformation and regeneration, and secrets being revealed, among other things. Often corrections in these areas occur in dramatic fashion. The current out of bounds peaks early October, then diminishes through to December.

On Monday, Saturn’s retrograde motion takes it back into Pisces’ waters, where it languished for over two years until last May. Being the last sign of the zodiac, it is about completion. So until we will be offered a chance to reconnect with our soul, and with the highest side of ourselves, the side that embodies the Fish’s ideals of compassion and empathy. The downside: some of us will feel overwhelmed by current pressures and seek more escapism, from binge-watching series to substance abuse. More positively, we may return to deep contemplation of life purpose as well. This is all with an eye to being able to “walk the talk,” or carry these ideals and fully live our best lives when Saturn enters Aries to stay mid-February 2026.

Tuesday marks mental Mercury’s ingress into Virgo, a place it feels at home. Until September 18, expect a shift in mental focus as thoughts become sharper, more practical, and attuned to the intricacies of daily life. It's a period where clarity is possible, provided we guard against excessive criticism or narrowness of view; the challenge is to use Virgo’s analytical gifts to solve problems without losing sight of compassion or flexibility.

It's a rough homecoming for Mercury for the first two days, though. On Tuesday, the Messenger Planet forms a quincunx aspect with both Saturn and Neptune, stirring up temporary disruptions in communications, technology, or travel plans. These celestial cross-currents might manifest as delays, misunderstandings, or even moments of mental lapse; it’s best to double-check details.

The pattern continues on Wednesday as Mercury squares Uranus and Mars and makes an uncomfortable quincunx to Pluto. Communications will be challenging to say the least. Be on the lookout for impatient and irritable people, even some road rage. Those in authority may be irrational, and it’s important to remain patient amid the static.

Late Thursday, like at 10:59 pm EDT, combative Mars squares high-minded Jupiter, which heightens tension and can lead to conflicts fueled by strong principles or beliefs. It can also lead to impulsive actions due to an exaggerated sense of FOMO. The red planet is in Libra, Jupiter in Cancer, creating a push-pull between assertiveness and sensitivity. The urge to defend one’s ideals runs high, but it’s wise to not take things too personally. Striking a balance between passionate advocacy and empathy is possible and beneficial.

The Moon is in idealistic Aquarius on Friday. So we’ll feel the effects of Uranus’ station before retrograding, exact at 12:51 am EDT the next day, even more strongly. Whenever the planet of higher consciousness and radical transformation comes to a standstill, its influence reverberates more intensely. We now may feel a surge of restless energy—a call to break free from outdated patterns or embrace a new perspective. The invitation is to remain flexible, to expect the unexpected, and to allow insights to surface, even if they arrive in surprising or disruptive forms.

The weekend scenario is dominated by the lunar eclipse at 2:09 pm EDT on Sunday, September 7. The Moon will be in mystical Pisces exactly opposite the Sun in pragmatic Virgo. Eclipses are felt as especially intense lunations. They sometimes coincide with dramatic events on the world stage or in our lives. Very often with a lunar one we will experience a completion or change of direction that in retrospect was a long time coming, even fated.

This lunar eclipse is followed by a solar eclipse in Virgo on September 21. Together, they’re part of an 18-month cycle along the Pisces-Virgo axis, a tug-of-war between dreamy surrender and practical action. For this eclipse, Mercury will bolster the Sun in Virgo’s cause, adding insight and logic. This acts to balance the Piscean impulse to live purely in the world of intuition and feeling.

On the negative side, powermonger Pluto plays spoiler, sesquiquadrate the Sun and semisquare the Moon. It is likely the current world situation will continue to bring sudden, upsetting events. Or closer to home, power struggles can keep us off-kilter. As well, love goddess Venus in quincunx the Moon, indicating that any relationship build on pure self-interest or a victim-rescuer basis will be brought to light and possibly undergo a reality check.

But Jupiter also trines the Moon and sextiles the Sun, sounding a note of hope and optimism, and helping us to reconnect with good feelings and those we care about. Other positive and significant aspects help tip the scales during this eclipse, too.

As with every eclipse season, this one offers us opportunities for insight and clarity. They often act like a cosmic eraser, wiping clean the slate of busy-ness of all that is extraneous and a distraction. And leaving that which needs to be released or requires our attention to make the most of fresh opportunities waiting in the wings.
