A major shifting of gears is underway with the New Moon cosmic reset midweek followed by the spring equinox, all while communicator Mercury has a date with destiny.

It’s the last week of Mercury retrograde, which means it is moving very slowly. In the non-linear, intuitive and emotive sign of Pisces, this can further hinder thinking and communications that are based on logic. A foggy mental atmosphere makes it more difficult to focus and discern what's true. News could be confusing or misleading, so take your time before making decisions or trusting information. However, it is an excellent time for accessing the intuitive or creative side of the brain and having important breakthroughs. So time spent in mindfulness or artistic pursuits can flourish.

Although the messenger planet officially goes direct on Friday, it takes a while for the positive effects of direct motion to kick in. So for a week after that date expect delays and logistical or communication mix-ups, including technical glitches. Do review plans, complete old projects, but avoid making major, irreversible decisions until after March 27, if possible.

Mercury has a travel companion as it slow walks this week: the karmic north node. Both in Pisces, they will be exactly conjunct twice this week—on Tuesday while still retrograde and again on Sunday after going direct.

In esoteric astrology, the north node is said to indicate where we should seek our spiritual evolution. Those who are open to being guided by higher power(s) or the higher self may find the communication download easier to access. It’s a good idea to spend more time in meditation or other pursuits towards that end. Others may find they benefit from simply letting go of expectations and logic, and letting their intuition be the guide.

On Wednesday, March 18, at 9:23 pm EDT, a New Moon kicks off a fresh cycle.  At 28 degrees of Pisces, it is also what is known as void of course, meaning it forms no major aspects before leaving the sign.

This phenomenon is associated with slower, even paused momentum, and is far less favourable for launching new, long-term initiatives than other New Moons. It reinforces the Pisces influence, making it more a time for reflection and meditation than big initiatives. It does favour bringing closure, something also indicated by the sign placement, so this might inaugurate a big spring clearout, literally and figuratively.

This New Moon also falls just before Aries season, which begins on March 20.  And the lunation makes a very positive and productive sextile to innovative Uranus, bringing potential for exciting breakthroughs. We may find ourselves making way for major changes, and that we can finally look forward to them with our whole heart. Over the next month, surprising new opportunities may seem to materialize out of left field, too.

As well, love goddess Venus forms an exact square to Jupiter, bringing a tendency towards excess in affections and desires—which can negatively impact our love, creative or financial lives. With Uranus also involved, it’s easy to become swept up in the moment and react impulsively. We may simple want too much to quickly. Or, share too much or make grand promises we can’t fulfill or that later may feel over the top. While openness can foster connection, it’s important to remain mindful of our boundaries to avoid feeling exposed or regretful later on.

Speaking of Aries, the lunation falls in the wake of the tight conjunction of stern Saturn and nebulous Neptune, now aligned in the first degrees of Aries. What realizations surfaced around last month’s eclipses? Can you now see a brighter, more dynamic future? And do you know what steps you need to take to make it a go?  You can use Neptunian imagination and channel to the divine while grounding your visions in reality by looking through Saturn’s strategic and pragmatic eyes.

We can embrace the unique energy of this New Moon to manifest new possibilities, but it would be best to move slowly while Mercury retrograde continues in Pisces.

On Friday, Mercury stations before resuming forward motion (see above). As well, at 10:46 am EDT the Sun enters bold, enterprising and resourceful Aries. It inaugurates a cycle of increased energy and a major shift toward action, leadership, and new beginnings, It is also the spring equinox in northern latitudes. An equinox, when the hours of daylight and darkness are approximately equal, represents an important turning point. We can feel a sense of greater connection to nature and the cosmos at this time.

It’s a mixed bag of planetary influences on the weekend. Saturday unfolds under a dynamic Mars (action) trine Jupiter (optimism) aspect for a notable boost of positive energy. During this period, we may feel a heightened sense of enthusiasm and confidence, empowering us to pursue our goals with renewed vigour. This influence can inspire action, especially in areas where we hold strong beliefs or convictions. As a result, we are more likely to take steps towards bringing our aspirations to life, fuelled by a positive outlook and a willingness to take initiative.

A much different vibe prevails on Sunday, as a Sun-Neptune conjunction impels us inward for some introspection. During this time, we may find ourselves seeking a deeper connection with our spiritual nature, as the influence of Neptune encourages us to look within and reflect on our inner values and beliefs.

The big planet is also close to Saturn, with which the Sun has an exact rendezvous on March 25. So, over the next few days the Sun will activate the energies associated with the Saturn-Neptune alignment (see above). These planetary influences suggest that we cannot ignore the larger process of transformation currently unfolding. The radiant Sun can serve as a catalyst, illuminating the path ahead. It also can help us meet the ongoing changes and challenges that await us with more surety and confidence.
