Two planets shift signs this week, and one augurs a major celestial shift that will impact us all for many years to come. Many astrologers are calling it a new era.
All week we will feel a building of energy in advance of next week’s solar eclipse. A major driver is the planet Saturn entering Aries for a two-plus year stay on Friday. The ringed planet has been called the great teacher in astrology. It becomes rather irascible in Aries, as in this fiery sign lessons around anger, over-competitiveness and aggression may arise. Another downfall is a “my way or the highway” approach, as the sign’s certitude becomes too rigid. Past transits of Saturn in this sign have seen increased militarization and a proliferation of authoritarian regimes.
But there are also many positive potentials to this combination, like encouraging a disciplined, patient and realistic approach to taking action. People born with this placement can demonstrate remarkable resilience, strength in confronting fears and overcoming obstacles, choosing perseverance over defeat. Until April 2028 when it moves on, we can learn to delay gratification, focusing on long-term goals rather than instant rewards. There also will be lessons in self-reliance and courage, and about taking personal responsibility with confidence.
During Saturn transits of Aries, often a strong drive emerges to improve governments and social structures, working toward fairer and more effective systems for everyone. Issues will arise around leadership, with qualities such as integrity, maturity and a sense of duty are emphasized. There could be a new youth movement aimed at building and guiding our communities.
Saturn also now closely aligns with Neptune, leading up to their exact conjunction on February 20. They do so at 0 degrees of Aries, something that has not happened for over 3,000 years. I will cover the phenomenon in more depth next week at my Stellar Salon, an informal online gathering. Contact me for details.
Monday dawns with the last quarter Moon in deep Scorpio, during which we might ponder what we’ve passed by and what lies ahead. During the last Full Moon, things may have come to light around issues of power or attachments. Including those that were not for your future good. If so, now is the time to purge emotional baggage.
The mood shifts on Tuesday as Mars forms a semisquare to Saturn, throwing a few roadblocks. Our path is hindered by people who may seem to not get or even thwart our efforts. Patience is needed in the face of frustrations. But as Luna gallops into freewheeling Sagittarius, it makes mostly favourable aspects, which can help us determine if we perhaps over-dramatized some aspect and keep a sense of humour.
Further sweetening the atmosphere, the goddess of love, good living and creativity, Venus, enters Pisces, a sign in which she shines. Until March 6, even the hardest of hearts finds it easier to forgive and even forget, and compassion overfloweth. Mercury is already in Pisces, so we may find it easier to express from the heart, to let more tender feelings be revealed. Creative expression and spiritual connection flourish under this transit, too. The downside is that seeing the best in others, when exaggerated, becomes gullibility—not a good quality when choosing partner or adviser. Those who have trouble with boundaries may find

The Moon continues its stay in Sagittarius until Thursday afternoon when it moves into sober, industrious Capricorn. This has a stabilizing effect usually. However, Mars forms a quincunx to Jupiter that day. I find this aspect coincides with many accidents to people or automobiles. And they are usually caused by a tendence to overestimate our capabilities. We might be tempted towards recklessness in finances, too.
The Moon is still in the undemonstrative sign of the Goat on Saturday, Valentine’s Day. Expressions of affection will likely be on the subdued side and favour honest expressions over flashy displays. It’s also a sign that means what it says and plays for keeps in romance, which lovers today might want to keep in mind. Those of us who are unattached might feel a tad isolated unless we make an effort to surround ourselves with things and folks we love.
There’s also an undercurrent of rebellion against the conventions of the day, or any day, build all weekend in advance of the Sun-Uranus square that perfects at midnight EST Sunday. Restlessness prevails as we long to break free of restrictions; don’t be surprised if some folks act erratically. We may have a strong sense we deserve something better but can’t determine a clear path towards it. The Moon in inventive Aquarius makes helpful allies that day, helping us to lean into excitement and spontaneity. And when we do, surprisingly wonderful things can happen in our connections, both close and not so.
