We’re almost out of the eclipse corridor but may have to go with the erratic flow until we’re sure where to steer.
Eclipses historically have been linked with times of dramatic and rapid change, and historically also the death of leaders. Their effects can last for months.
Tuesday, March 3, at 6:38 am EST marks a total lunar eclipse that falls two weeks after a potent solar eclipse. The time between eclipses, or eclipse corridor, is always tricky to navigate. This one is exceptionally so, promising intensity and perhaps an emotional release.
Clouding the corridor’s atmosphere in confusion and uncertainty is the monumental Saturn-Neptune conjunction at the fated Aries Point that occurred on February 20 and the highly volatile square between Mars (war, confrontation) and Uranus (surprising and erratic events and behaviours) on the 27th.
The Full Moon, or lunar, eclipse is in Virgo, opposite the Sun at the same degree of Pisces, 12 degrees and 54 minutes. The Moon also conjoins its own South Node, which indicates the traits and character flaws that we individually and as members of humanity must release in order to evolve.
In the critical sign of the Virgin, these may involve judging and finding fault or giving in to pessimism rather than embracing a more compassionate, non-judgmental approach. Feeling out of control can evoke a Virgoan tendency to worry and fret, which can lead to nameless fears, even anxiety. The best antidote: balance with Piscean pursuits like perfecting an artistic or mindful pursuit like meditation, whatever puts us more in tune with our soul.
Virgo thrives in neat, orderly surroundings while following a set routine. Especially now that Mercury is retrograde, we may now find this comfort hard to find. Instead, we must adapt quickly and perhaps improvise in the face of changing, even chaotic, circumstances. Evolution lies with the North Node in Pisces, which is about having faith, keeping a long view and trusting in positive outcomes.
As well, Mercury began its three-week retrograde phase last Thursday. As the planet aligned with the sign of Virgo, it influences the eclipse energies. It is in Pisces, not a sign known for clear thinking! Projects or plans that require logic or strict planning may not work out. In general, while Mercury is retrograde it’s best to not sign important agreements or make big decisions or purchases, as they too often later must be revisited and reassessed, or simply not pan out.
But Mercury retrograde in this sign does favour non-linear thinking, and it can help us access our intuition—and thus make the most of the eclipse energies.
Also this week, Mars enters Pisces on Monday, where it will stay until April 9. This takes the edge of the warrior planet’s aggressive tendencies and may instead spur us more towards artistic or mindful pursuits. Or, towards making sure our emotional needs are met. During this time, though, we may also become non-confrontational to the point of wishy-washy or passive aggressive. On the first day, Mars sesquiquadrates Jupiter, which can make us overly emotional and giving into impulse before acting won’t work out.
On Wednesday, as Mercury retrograde forms a semisquare aspect with powerful Pluto, our thoughts tend to become more strategic. This aspect can also lead to an increased sense of suspicion or doubt. As a result, we may find ourselves questioning whether the information we receive is reliable and not inclined to take anything or anyone at face value. As well, a sextile between Venus and Uranus creates favourable conditions for forging new relationships and alliances. This social influence encourages us to connect with individuals who fall outside our usual circle of acquaintances. Or, it may inspire participation in social activism alongside groups of like-minded people.
Thursday, Jupiter’s Day, sees the Sun appropriately trine Jupiter, which encourages a sense of warmth and sentimentality. With the jovial planet in Cancer, we may find ourselves feeling pleasantly nostalgic and motivated to reach out and connect with our family members. This is an ideal time to nurture relationships, share memories, and strengthen the bonds that unite us. As well, this aspect also supports the expansion of our spiritual practice. The energy of Sun trine Jupiter helps us develop a stronger connection to our inner self, promoting personal growth and a sense of inner peace.
On Friday, Venus enters feisty Aries for a stay lasting until March 30. The love goddess becomes emboldened in this sign, bringing more directness and audacity in romantic and other relationships. People may feel braver about starting new relationships or exploring creative projects, especially those that feel exciting and different. This period also brings a restless energy and desire for novelty that can sometimes make it harder to maintain long-term commitments and steady progress in creative work or financial matters.
Venus dominates the weekend scenario, forming significant alignments with both Neptune and Saturn. On Saturday, she exactly conjuncts Neptune and on Sunday aligns with Saturn. These aspects highlight themes of idealism and reality within our relationships and financial matters. While the influence of Neptune may bring about feelings of disillusionment, it also provides clarity by revealing issues that may have previously been hidden.
And since the Sun forms a conjunction with retrograde Mercury that day, there is a powerful invitation to direct our attention inward. This alignment encourages self-reflection, as well as a thoughtful review and reassessment of our current plans and intentions. We may discover adjustments or refinements that can better support our progress moving forward.
Venus’ conjunction with Saturn on Sunday serves as a reality check, prompting us to confront truths within alliances, partnerships or fiscal situations. This period is marked by revelations that encourage honesty and a deeper understanding of our connections and commitments.
And with Mercury now making a trine to expansive Jupiter, it is an excellent day to seek out high-minded people for conversations about hopes an aspirations. Spiritual or ethical questions may be on our mind or seeking information that helps us regain our sense of optimism and belief in the future and the way forward.
