The first full week of spring brings both a cosmic breath of fresh air and an important checkpoint.

Mercury moves direct in Pisces after a 3-week retrograde. Whenever the communicator planet visits this sign, our thinking comes under the aegis of emotion and intuition rather than hard, cold logic. Great for composing poetry, not so great for accounting. Many people are reporting brain fog now, I find. And when it backpedals, we can find it more difficult to finish even simple tasks as thoughts are hard to herd. Our own thoughts and opinions are harder to pin down, as are those of folks we deal with.

If it’s still more difficult than usual to get a sharp fix on mental tasks, it’s likely because Mercury is in a post-retrograde phase known as its shadow. As well, issues or conversations from the past may resurface. By next Monday, the fog should begin to clear. And we should have more clearsighted trust in our intuition or gut feelings as we move through Aries season now, a time that calls for action and boldness.

As well, this week the Sun will aspect Neptune and Saturn, still conjunct. And so it triggers the bigger issues and transformation initiated on February 20 with the exact aspect and eclipse. On a personal level, we are all challenged to align our spiritual or compassionate side with action in the real world. In Aries, it also sparks the urge for a fresh start.

The difference this week: We will feel the buildup of energy in advance of a productive and empowering alliance of Saturn and Pluto on the weekend.

On a larger scale, the Sun-Saturn-Neptune alignment reveals hidden truths and may expose weaknesses in social and governmental structures. Disillusionment is possible as illusions fade and secrets come to light.

The Moon wends her way through the mentally vibrant sign of Gemini on Monday and Tuesday. We may hear the call of Mercury’s forward motion now. We may find ourselves being fired with new ideas and finding a way to voice them. The only downside: Gemini is easily distracted! But if we make an extra effort to focus, both days are highly productive, with Luna making mostly positive allies.  Tuesday is especially favourable for creative efforts and connecting, which includes romantic overtures.

On Wednesday, March 25, the Moon moves into Cancer for its first quarter phase. Emotions are heighted under this tender and sensitive sign, and so are any insecurities. We may be pulled between the Sun’s need for Aries action and the lunar need for nurturing and going within. Balance can be found in taking more time to care for ourselves and others.

As well, on this day the Sun will conjunct Saturn and sextile Pluto, bringing an opportunity for introspection and transformation.  The Sun’s conjunction with Saturn almost always signifies a reality check. In Aries, we have the courage to confront truths, even difficult ones, acknowledging both achievements and shortcomings. This alignment urges us to be honest with ourselves and to face situations that require clarity and responsibility.

Giving a big assist, the Sun’s sextile to Pluto offers an empowering energy. This aspect supports us in making necessary changes, providing the strength and motivation to move forward with renewed purpose. The combination of these influences encourages transformation through self-awareness and decisive action.

On Thursday, relating becomes a touchy subject, as love goddess Venus conjuncts wounded healer Chiron.  Under this alignment, deep insecurities regarding relationships, love or beauty, often stemming from past wounds, can surface. We may also find the key to greater empathy and self-acceptance. As well, transiting Mercury makes a semisquare to Venus, stirring up some interesting dynamics in how we communicate with those we care for. Thoughts and words may feel a bit out of sync with what our heart wants to express.

The Moon enters fiery Leo on Friday. A sign that knows how to have a good time, it sets the tone for an upbeat weekend infused with dramatic, warm and creatively expressive energy, along with a desire to be recognized for our words and deeds. This period encourages heartfelt self-expression, confidence, and joy, making it ideal for socializing, creativity, and celebrating yourself if no one else will.

Pleasure can be pursued—and found—but we still might want to schedule time to ponder weightier matters. For on Saturday, disciplined Saturn in Aries forms a harmonious sextile with determined Pluto in Aquarius. The sextile aspect opens opportunities rather than forcing action. We can more easily embrace the possibility (sextile) of transformation (Pluto) and know what steps to take (Saturn). Some of us may feel a strong call towards making a stronger commitment to social change. To fully benefit from this aspect, make a move in the weeks ahead. Even a small step forward can open up new pathways to larger goals.

The Sunday outlook favours both love and creativity in the morning hours. By afternoon, though, the Moon shifts to conscientious Virgo, and we’re more focused on spring cleaning or preparing for the workweek ahead.
