It’s all leading to this: an energizing solar eclipse next Saturday and Neptune’s major shift the next day.

There’s often a heightened sense of unreality around eclipses, this time amplified by the proximity of dream-weaver Neptune. These special lunations are times of endings and beginnings, especially since the eclipse falls in Aries, the sign of the initiator. And these happenings touch us more profoundly than usual and have lasting impact.

Everyday life can be difficult around eclipses. I always counsel taking lots of time to unplug and contemplate at these times.  Look for signs and see what’s coming to light. That will signal what to focus on for the next six months or more. So take lots of notes.

On Monday, the Sun conjuncts mental Mercury, now at the halfway mark in its current retrograde phase. Communications fly fast and furious, synapses fire on all cylinders. We may receive important information or have a sudden realization about what our next steps should be. The Moon is in collective-minded Aquarius, helping us to widen our vision.

The trend continues into Tuesday as the winged planet forms a sextile aspect with Pluto: This helps clear some of the retrograde fog and promotes insight. We can be particularly perceptive now and go beneath the surface to ferret out important information. Both days are excellent for brainstorming and finding creative solutions to longstanding problems.

On Wednesday, March 26, militant Mars squares off with wounded healer Chiron. With the red planet in Cancer, insecurity can make us ultra-defensive as we try to protect our interests. If you’ve been repressing any anger, look for constructive ways to vent it.

Love goddess Venus, now retrograde, slips back into starry-eyed Pisces on Thursday. The Moon is also in this mystical sign. And she conjoins dreamy, idealistic Neptune for the day, upping the desire to be lost in romance or a creative project. This is the ultimate rose-coloured-glasses time, and we tend to see only the best in everyone and everything. It’s best to not get too carried away, lest we face later disillusionment. In all dealings, sensitivity and compassion are heightened.

Luna continues to progress through Pisces on Friday, forming helpful alliances all along the way.  A meeting of both mind and soul can happen in relationships. If it is the start of something new, progress will be low and slow. It’s a good time to revisit past issues and resolve them amicably. This is one of the most romantic and creative days in many a Moon, but by evening Luna’s progress into active Aries draws our attention elsewhere.

On Saturday at 6:58 am EDT, the Sun and Moon will align at 09° Aries in a partial New Moon solar eclipse. Both luminaries form a tight semisquare aspect with radical Uranus. Whenever the side-spinning planet is involved, we are challenged to be more authentic and independent, with the courage to trust our intuition and take a stand against peer pressure, if necessary. The planet also has no use for outdated traditions and attitudes.

But with the tense semisquare in effect, accessing this energy can be anything but comfortable. Surprising events could set us on edge. We may feel extremely restless with a sense of urgency—yet aren’t sure why. Spring fever on steroids! Look for harmless outlets: spontaneous exercise sessions, closet cleaning, outings with friends or loved ones to avoid any stress or frustration. In more serious matters, acting impulsively is not a good response, so avoid making important decisions now.

On Sunday, Neptune will move into Aries; the last time it was in this sign was from 1861 to 1874. (The planet stays in each sign for 14 years). Being an outer planet, this change represents a major shift in collective cosmic energies that impact us in many ways. It’s also subtle, so it may take a while for all of us to fully understand the new order.

Happening just after the eclipse and in the same signs, we may feel a strong impetus towards initiating new enterprises and endeavours. But we should remember that both Mercury and Venus are retrograde now and that both planets re-enter Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac, this week. This would indicate that we need to slow down and gather more data before making our big move.  We have more time than we fear now.
