Weekly Horoscope: August 5-11, 2024

Sunday’s New Moon in Leo moves adding more fun to the top of the agenda in the weeks ahead, but planetary retrogrades seem to have put the world on snooze control.

Summer’s end marks a busy retrograde season. A whopping six celestial bodies are backtracking, putting them on hiatus. As of last week, the planets Saturn, Neptune and Pluto plus asteroids Eris, Chiron and Ceres are in retrograde. On Monday of this week, Mercury also joins the club in arguably the most notorious of planetary retrogrades.

Got travel plans? Make sure to leave extra time contingencies, just in case. You may experience delays, cancellations or other foul-ups with reservations. Mercury’s governance over communication, technology, and intellect have contributed to its retrograde phases’ bad rep. During this time, which happens about four times a year, wires are more likely to be crossed, accidents to happen, and decisions later having us slapping our foreheads and exclaiming “What was I thinking?.” But there are some positives we can glean from these experiences if we work with the energy.

The planet of communication will appear to move backward until August 28.  For the first 10 days, the discerning planet is retrograde in Virgo making this a good time to review and get the details right. We may find ourselves spending more time fact and grammar checking before we hit ‘send.’ Or taking longer to complete a task because we want to get it right. We can effectively research, but should delay going public with our findings. during this time. It will be easy to get so tangled up in the details that you lose sight of the bigger picture. Make an effort to get the small stuff right, but don't obsess. Keep an eye on your ultimate goals, too.

Also on Monday, love goddess Venus moves from diva Leo to wise and practical Virgo, where it will stay until the end of the month. This should calm any romantic or messy drama we’ve been experiencing lately. Best way to demonstrate love now: be there for the people you care about without making a fuss about it or needing any thanks. And remember actions speak much more loudly than words now. Our passions will be expressed more moderately, adding to calmer social and romantic scenes.  Although Venus in Virgo is patient and humble, it also has very high standards. We may find ourselves holding out for an ideal relationship.

On Tuesday, we may feel lost in a fog as the usually upbeat Sun in Leo’s parade gets rained on by Neptune in water-sign Pisces. Feelings hopelessness or discouragement may also arise, but like a summer storm will quickly pass.

Wednesday, August 7, sees Mercury snuggling up to Venus, both in Virgo. This is one of the better times of the year to set a new foundation in relationships. Communication, mindfulness and attentiveness will be the keys to success. A buoyant Sun-Jupiter trine boosts faith and confidence, while the Moon, also in Virgo, helps us keep on foot in practicality.

The focus on relationships continues into Thursday, as Luna enters Libra.  It makes mostly harmonious aspects with other planets until the end of the following day. This can make for a particularly enjoyable period in which to socialize enjoy a romantic tryst or two.  Late Friday, though, a sombre mood prevails as we begin to feel the effects of the Sun’s frictional inconjunct with Saturn, exact early Saturday.  Feelings of intensely low self-esteem can arise, especially if we try to measure up to an impossible ideal.

On Saturday, the Moon continues her progress through relationship-minded libra, but has a less smooth time of it. Uncomfortable aspects to both Uranus and Neptune may have us doubting how much we owe other people in time and energy. And boundary-setting may be difficult. Come evening, Luna enters Scorpio, turning the rest of the weekend into a reflective, deep time to feel our emotions and watch our inner dialogue. It first encounters implacable Pluto, where it may uncover uncomfortable truths. But all day Sunday is optimal for talking things out, journaling or otherwise communicating your deepest thoughts and emotions.
