It’s home stretch for the season of Sagittarius, a sign that knows how to have a good time. A festive and upbeat mood prevails, while a Mars shift helps us to get some work done, too.

On Monday, the red planet of energy and initiative leaves the sign of the Archer for Capricorn. Mars is said to be exalted in this sign, meaning that this is where it performs optimally. Staying in this earth sign for the next six weeks shifts the focus to tangible results that have staying power.

Moving away from Sagittarian spontaneous enthusiasm, this transit helps us to channel our energy into focused and productive pursuits. It's easier to summon self-discipline, which enhances our ability to execute long-term goals, and to be savvy and strategic. We can be motivated to climb mountains—both literally and metaphorically—if we tap into the Capricornian drive to achieve and succeed.  The downside: if ambition goes into overdrive, we might veer into workaholic lane. Or neglect our emotional needs at the expense of what we consider practical expediency.

Mars in Capricorn can also help us work more quickly and efficiently—leaving more time to enjoy this final week of Sagittarius season. That fire sign adds a note of joy and optimism, bringing everyone’s inner child out to play. It also helps us dream in technicolour, while the earth-sign energy helps us to not go overboard in pursuing our heart’s desires.

On Tuesday, the Sun in Sagittarius’ ebullience is dampened by a square from Saturn in Pisces. This aspect reminds us that while ideals are powerful, there are practical matters that need our attention before we can move forward. Once addressed, our actions can be not only inspired, but also grounded and effective. As well, the Sun forms a harmonious trine with the asteroid Eris, adding a note of courageous determination and willingness to embrace a cause.

Mercury Day (Wednesday, mercredi) sees that planet most active. The planet of communication and cognition forms sesquiquadrate aspects to both Chiron and Jupiter. Interactions can be challenging, likely due to people jumping to wrong conclusions and being overly sensitive to implied slights.

Overdoing it at a holiday get-together is likely on Thursday, as Venus forms a fractious inconjunct to Jupiter. We yearn pleasure and full-throttle holiday indulgence, yet this aspect demands an adjustment between enjoyment and excess. We’ll have to make an extra effort to exert some self- discipline, as it’s very tempting to overeat, drink, or spend extravagantly. A better use of the energy might be to reflect what really nurtures you and your soul (Jupiter in Cancer) beyond fleeting gratification.

Friday, December 19, 8:43 pm EST, marks the New Moon in Sagittarius. Every such lunation brings a chance for a cosmic reset and, with the Moon, Sun, Mercury and Venus whooping it up in this optimistic and exuberant sign, it promises to be an exceptionally uplifting one. We can access the sign’s gifts of vision, vitality, inspiration and wisdom to open a new window.

But Saturn and Neptune, both in Pisces, now square off with the Sagittarius confab. This configuration invites us to allow our dreams to intersect with reality. It is a call to dream big within reason: to integrate our highest aspirations with mundane practicalities. Rather than building castles in the air, we might envision a dream condo more within our IRL grasp. This would be a good time to set intentions for 2026. Dare to dream a bigger dream, to see yourself in a much better place six months from now.

Some of us may be grappling with reconciling spiritual ideals with real-life dissatisfaction or disillusion, and may now see a new path forward. This New Moon sits near the Galactic Centre, so things can seem very dark indeed at first. Illumination will be swift and dramatic. Whatever the situation, Mars in Capricorn, sitting nearby, can help us to ground these visions and to anchor them in tangible action, while Jupiter in Cancer urges us to access wisdom by trusting our gut, our intuition.

On Saturday, Venus squaring Saturn might prompt us to donate time or money to a holiday charity.  Our ideals influence our relationships today, and we’re motivated to help those less fortunate. The downside is that we may be impatient or intolerant to those who are closest, with can cause tension in relationships. At the same time, the Sun in opinionated Sagittarius squares Saturn, so our ideals may be tested, or confusion arise about our beliefs. There’s a heightened sensitivity to collective emotions, and find it hard to set boundaries. Rather than overcommitting ourselves to a cause or project, it might be best to wait until we’re more clear about the situation.

Sunday marks the Sun's entry into Capricorn at 10:03 am EST and the arrival of the solstice and the start of winter north of the equator. Traditionally, it is a powerful moment for intention setting: to let go of the old, embrace the stillness, and consciously begin building the foundation for the year ahead, grounded in real-world goals and inner wisdom.

Astrologers often draw up a chart for the moment of the Solstice, which provides insight into the prevailing themes and energies that will influence the months ahead.  Because it falls just two days after the New Moon, this one is especially significant as many of the planetary aspects present in the solstice chart set the tone for the collective experience over the next three months.

The Moon today is positioned in Capricorn, standing in opposition to Jupiter, which squares Chiron. This configuration can coincide with challenges to our beliefs or a crisis of faith. It is likely that important issues regarding prejudice, discrimination or other social justice issues may arise and new information come to light.
