We’re in the leadup to Sunday’s solar eclipse that, though technically partial, is generating full-throttle energies.
The New Moon next Sunday will see the Sun and Moon align exactly at the 29th and final degree of Virgo at 3:54 pm EDT. It’s time for new beginnings, a big cosmic reset. But this time, because it is also a partial solar eclipse, which acts as a turbocharged New Moon, the effects can last for up to six months.
The configuration at the 29th degree of the signs (a common degree for ending cycles) further emphasizes the "door closes, a new door opens" energy of this lunation.
Virgo is the sign of the harvest, of separating the wheat from the chaff. This eclipse is here to help you do a discerning declutter of your life, getting rid of unproductive habits (which includes the worry/anxiety loop) and routines. The celestial reset brings an opportunity to let go of what no longer serves you, making space for fresh perspectives. Embracing these changes can lead to increased clarity and a sense of empowerment, setting the stage for positive developments in the months ahead.
What to avoid: Virgo can help us see what is wrong, but then dwell on the imperfection rather than looking for fixes or solutions. Pessimism can further make us “lose the name of action.”
Sunday's Solar Eclipse will be particularly impactful due to close aspects to the outer planets. Mars, planet of aggression and war will also be at the final degree of a sign, in this case Libra the negotiator. But it squares Pluto, exact next week. This makes for intense energy, a drive for transformation, and potential confrontations where power dynamics will be tested. Good for clarifying what needs to change in your life, with cautions to avoid being too extreme.
The luminaries also oppose both Saturn and Neptune. This is a test of faith with Neptune perhaps bringing a strong sense of regarding leaders especially. At the same time, Saturn in Pisces reminds us to take control or gain authority through authenticity and/or spiritual wisdom. This might be a difficult combination, except there are major allies in the sky. The Sun-Moon conjunction is in close trine aspect to trine aspect to both innovative Uranus in Gemini and transformational Pluto in Aquarius. the planets together form a rare kite formation (grand trine plus opposition).
An auspicious formation, the kite suggests that while change can feel unsettling, supportive planetary energies are guiding individuals toward a better and more aligned future. Keep the faith!
On Monday, the Moon is in homebody Cancer. It forms no aspects today, leaving a clean slate in some ways. At the same time, love goddess Venus is in showy Leo. We may go out of our way to express affection to family and those who feel like and in a big way. Or go overboard in shopping to feather our nest more luxuriously.
Luna continues her progress in that sign on Tuesday. However, with both Mercury and Mars tangling with wounded healer Chiron, people may be touchy. Conflict could emerge from misunderstanding or oversensitivity. Don’t jump to conclusions.
On Wednesday, the Moon moves into demonstrative, outgoing Leo. But with communicator Mercury opposite Saturn, we may find there are delays or snags to the schedule. Frustration can arise due to miscommunication. Avoid making snap decisions, especially if they involve long-term security.
Thursday sees the winged messenger moving into graceful Libra. Until October 6, harmony and compromise get priority in communications and social situations. It helps us to gain perspective and see both sides of a situation. For this day only, it makes a special and positive configurations with spiritual Neptune (opposition), inventive Uranus (trine) and powerful Pluto (trine). Creative juices flow and outside-the-box thinking can provide enlightened ideas and fresh perspectives.
Venus enters Virgo on Friday. We will be less demonstrative with loved ones, preferring to show that we care through helpful acts. We tend to be more realistic about relationships, too. And until October 13 will be generally more reserved about initiating romance or making commitments. There is also the perfectionist side of the sign, which can prompt a tendency to be overly critical of a partner.
On Saturday, Venus squares Uranus and makes a quincunx with Pluto: The need for independence or autonomy in relationships is strong now, to say the least. A quincunx with Pluto could also throw some jealousy or possessiveness into the mix. It’s best to keep an open mind and give folks their space. And with the Sun opposite Saturn, we may have to step up and take care of someone who is irresponsible or has made poor choices.
And Sunday marks the eclipse! (see above) It will be visible only in New Zealand, parts of Australia and Antarctica, and some Pacific islands, but its effects are universal.
