The poem Desiderata by Max Ehrmann (so a cliché in the 1970s) enjoins us to “go placidly amongst the noise and haste.”  In the leadup to Saturday’s New Moon in steady, stable Taurus, that advice feels just right, bringing welcome respite among global chaos and crisis.

The week kicks off with the Moon in Pisces adding a nourishing sprinkle of water to the earth sign of the Bull. Mercury is also in the latter sign, on Monday making a semisquare to Neptune. Logic may fail us now, but our intuitive thinking is heightened.  The trick is knowing side of our brain to listen to.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we’re under the beams of Mercury forming a helpful sextile to Jupiter, which supports clear, thoughtful communication and encourages a broader, more optimistic perspective. We find it easier to express emotions with calmness and sincerity, while also finding the right words to inspire understanding, hope, and trust. Conversations become more meaningful, as we’re able to cover the nitty-gritty and see the bigger picture at once. Wednesday is best for making the most of this aspect, as the Moon will have moved into dynamic Aries.

Thursday finds the Sun conjunct both communicator Mercury and asteroid Ceres, associated with nurturing. Our thoughts may turn more readily toward home, family and caregiving, and to the management of everyday responsibilities. Conversations are likely to centre on matters that feel tangible and immediate, especially those involving security, comfort, and the use of shared or physical resources. It’s a good time for thoughtful discussions and to tend to what truly needs care and attention.

Friday dawns with the Moon in Taurus. The only aspect it makes all day is a tense square to powermonger Pluto. As this happens around or breakfast, only early risers may be affected. It’s best to leave any difficult discussions until later n the day. As well, Mercury semisquare Saturn can bring a heavier, more serious tone to the day, making even simple plans feel slower or more complicated than expected. Delays, misunderstandings, or mental pressure may arise more easily now, and there can be a tendency to focus on what is lacking rather than on what is working. This influence encourages patience, discipline, and careful attention to detail. It is a useful time to slow down, think before speaking, and approach obstacles with maturity rather than discouragement.

Saturday, May 16, at 4:01 pm EDT, brings a new Moon in calm, practical, and luxury-loving Taurus. All such lunations generate a once-monthly cosmic reset, and this one shines ultra-brightly as a supermoon, meaning closer to earth and more potent. In an earth sign, this New Moon urges us to get grounded, to slow down and connect with nature. It brings fresh awareness of the power of the senses; we want to exploit each and every one all the while enjoying life’s many splendored pleasures. While we’re at it, we can plant seeds with an eye to cultivating long-term stability and more enjoyment and financial security.

This New Moon conjoins Mercury (see Thursday above for the energy it adds). The small planet is also very close to Uranus, which for the first time in eight years is in Gemini, not Taurus. This is a monumental shift away from constant shakeups in Taurean energy to an airier and more flexible sign. Things that may have been on hold or stuck for a long time may now seem possible. In Gemini, we’re able to entertain new, outside-the-box ideas and seek liberation from limiting mindsets.

Love goddess Venus, as the ruler of Taurus, plays an important role. In sociable, chatty Gemini, it adds the elements of curiosity and conversation to our pursuits of love, luxury, and artistic ventures.  Terrace season could be going full throttle as we want to be out and about with friends.

Mercury further activates this potential when it moves into Gemini, its home turf, on Sunday.  Expect the pace of life to accelerate under this quick-thinking influence, which lasts two weeks. Our mental synapses are firing on all cylinders, to the point it may be record the fast flow of ideas. Being in a loquacious sign, it may be hard to remember Desiderata advice to “remember what peace there may be in silence.” We may find ourselves speaking and communicating more rapidly and wanting to bounce ideas off someone. The downside: sometimes the nervous system can get overstimulated leading to a “fried” feeling. Or we can be too quick to make decisions based on little solid research.

On Sunday, Mercury also conjuncts Uranus, bringing a charged, awakened quality to the mind. Inspired insights and sudden realizations are possible as our thoughts move at lightening speed, often arriving in flashes that seem to bypass ordinary reasoning. This influence supports originality, mental breakthroughs, and a heightened openness to new ideas, especially those that challenge old assumptions or point toward a more authentic path. We also may find our minds more receptive to inspiration, higher understanding, and a deeper sense of spiritual purpose.
