The stakes seem very high in this transformative week that culminates with a New Moon, and Mars and Pluto in polarizing aspect.

It’s home stretch to the Canadian federal election, and tension will build as Mars and Pluto jockey into exact opposition for the third time in six months. This polarizing aspect between these two dynamic planets usually occurs only once every two years. But because of the Mars-Pluto opposition last November 3, we have a “three-peat.” In 2025, the first opposition aspect perfected on January 2, and the next is on Saturday, April 26.

These two planets—Mars, God of War, and Pluto, Ruler of Transformation—in aspect denote invariably tense and often dramatic events. Certainly, we have seen rampant abuse of power in some circles. As well in the world, old alliances and economic support systems have detonated since the New Year. This aspect also tends to evoke deep, visceral reactions, especially to perceived manipulation or control. It’s important that we act responsibly, and not just sit and stew.

The influence will be felt all week and into next. Occurring just before the national election, it’s hard to say how it will impact the results. There could be an upset in the works as people seek radical change. Pluto often brings revelations, too. On an individual level, it may take an extra effort to remain calm and keep perspective, focusing on the Big Picture. But successfully navigating this time requires making the effort.

The week kicks off with Saturn conjoining the lunar north node of Destiny on Monday.  We may find it hard to focus on mundane matters, preferring to contemplate higher matters and seek spiritual guidance. Doing so can help us navigate some of the current tension and avoid surrendering to anxiety.

On Tuesday, the Moon in humanitarian, community-minded Aquarius helps us to focus on Earth Day and saving the planet. A clash with Uranus late in the day, though, might cause frustration with lack of progress.

Wednesday, April 23, sees Luna drifting in Pisces’ calmer waters. But the Sun squares Pluto, giving a preview of the weekend’s tense planetary standoff. Be on the lookout for pushy folks who overreact and lose patience. We might have to deal with power issues and find the strength and stamina to stand up to anyone abusing the privilege. At the same time, Venus aligns with the north node. Support and values are important.

On Thursday, Luna makes very helpful alliances as it continues through the sign of the Fish. With the Sun semisquare Jupiter, our minds and efforts may be all over the place, and we could enjoy information overload. We also experience the third Venus conjunct Saturn this year, thanks to the planet’s earlier retrograde. The first such aspect was on January 18, the second on April 7. Saturn can provide a helpful reality check in things Venusian, like our core values, relationships and romance, loyalties and financial situation. This final alignment just might bring a resolution or important decision. Make it so.

The Moon shifts into active Aries on Friday. We’re able to end the workweek on a high note, clearing the desk, wrapping up projects and checking off goals met.

The weekend outlook is marred by the above-mentioned tense, possibly explosive, aspect. The volatile energies linger into Sunday. With Mercury semisquare Uranus, nervous energy prevails, possibly due to disrupted communications or travel plans.

The New Moon occurs on April 27at 3:31 pm EDT at 7 degrees, 46 minutes of Taurus. The usually peace-loving Bull is riled by the prior Mars-Pluto opposition in Leo and Aquarius respectively. The grace note: The luminaries are pulling away from the planets’ standoff, suggesting that we can use the past intensity to face and transform present long-held patterns around power (Pluto) and assertion/action (Mars). That to realize our dreams or ideals, we must balance personal creative power (Leo) with collective transformation (Aquarius).

As well, Venus, the planetary ruler of Taurus, is still conjunct Saturn in Pisces, bringing a grounding and structuring energy. We feel more inclined to tap into the stabilizing potential of this New Moon in a sign that offers the gift of presence. It invites us to slow down and stop to smell the daffodils, to go on a digital fast and enjoy the stillness. To get back to basics, to what really matters in our lives.

The essence of Taurus is a beautiful simplicity and appreciation for the natural world. Along with it, an awareness that our own bodies and sense are part of that. And that good things come to those who wait patiently, knowing that growth and a flowering happens in harmony with the divine plan. It gives us permission to create space for ourselves and just be, to know that transformation doesn’t always require dramatic action or constant effort.
